Lunar Digital reveals multi-million pound investment plans

2024 kicked off with a bang for Lunar Digital as we successfully executed a 15 year lease on Reynolds House with landlord Capitaland Ascendas REIT. This was the culmination of 12 months effort across various teams. Lunar Digital say farewell to former occupier Equinix, who operationally maintained the site until our arrival.

Manchester continues to strengthen its position as a highly vibrant IT infrastructure hub and the city is recognised as being a leading European business destination across a number of industries, fast becoming a magnet for attracting the very best talent. Lunar Digital are thrilled to welcome our new starters, as we tap into a huge talent pool situated on our doorstep in Manchester Science Park; the home of both the Lunar 1 & Lunar 2 data centre facilities.

The 3rd of January saw the commencement of a huge refurbishment across all data halls to improve overall site efficiency. We are excited to announce the following investment activities within the Lunar 1 & 2 data centre facilities as we continue to position our facilities as flagship sites in Manchester, specifically designed for highly dense HPC requirements and retail colocation opportunities;

  • Full renovations of C5 & C6 data halls to optimise power and cooling in preparation for large scale suite deployments for global clients
  • New cooling solutions across the entire facility to cater to the increasing demand for HPC & AI driven colocation deployments
  • Implementation of new unity power factor efficient UPS system in C3/4 and C5/C6 data halls
  • Underfloor baffling and CAC (Cold Aisle Containment) for colocation areas and HAC (Hot Aisle Containment) for HPC solutions

Mark Sedgley, Chief Commercial Officer at Lunar Digital said:

“We are delighted to have the opportunity to invest in this incredible city. Modernising our data centres will enable us to deliver highly efficient colocation and with the adoption of AI and machine learning that is transforming the way we live our lives, we are also dedicating our approach to enabling HPC solutions, a fast-growing space that has limited options currently in Manchester.

Sustainability and giving back to the environment is incredibly important for Lunar Digital. Our obligation to invest ethically into improving the efficiency of our data centres and advancing our strategy to become not only become net zero but carbon positive is something that is very close to our heart”

As Lunar Digital consider its environmental sustainability, we have also mandated blanking panel installations across all areas. As the North-West’s largest independent colocation operation, Lunar Digital are thrilled to announce the above changes and they look forward to supporting colocation, AI & HPC requirements into 2024 and beyond.
