Our Story

In February 2023, Lunar Digital was thrilled to announce that we signed an agreement with Equinix to acquire the highly connected data centre, previously known as “MA2” in Manchester. The  2,090 sqm (22,500 sq ft), 3MW site is now officially known as Lunar1 and Lunar2, due to both data centres having independent energy centres, critical infrastructure and generator supply.

Part of the Lunar Group and founded last year, Lunar Digital currently operates two other data centers; Lunar 3 in east Manchester and the 650 sqm Lunar 4 in Gaupne, Norway.

The two data center buildings, now known as Lunar1 and Lunar2, offers significant capacity with more than 20 carriers, including the Lunar Connect network. Lunar Digital will invest a significant amount in modernising the facility, primarily focusing on improving the site’s efficiency and compute capacity. Having initially signed the lease in June 2023, Lunar Digital incepted this lease on the facility, on a 15 year initial term with Capitaland Ascendas REIT on 2nd January 2024.

Lunar Digital have already signed up an impressive customer base, retaining many clients who were already located in the facility in addition to landing significant contracts with local Universities and global businesses whose strategy it is to grow their IT presence in Manchester.
